Happy Xmas (war is over)

Well, it's the eve of Christmas. If you don't have anything better to do, go rent one of these holiday classics. They are sure to put you into the Christmassy mood or atleast, make you laugh. Here are my top five favorite Christmas movies:

5. I'll Be Home For Christmas

Don't laugh. This movie is a classic. I don't why I watched it the first time, but I got hooked. The kid from Home Improvement does his best work and the girl from 7th Heaven isn't horrible either. I consider this movie a pleasurable vice. Try it. It's got the rich nostalgic feeling people need this time of year.

4. National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation

I used to think this movie was the funniest thing around. But now it doesn't seem so. Although year after year, I still watch it and year after year, it just gets stupider. However, this year I watched it and there are still parts that crack me up. Part of the humorous elements of the movie is the dialogue. Chevy Chase is the real deal and this movie is surely going to lighten the holiday stress.

3. A Christmas Story

The hilarious tale of a young boy and his dream to get a Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas. Chaos ensues for this family and this movie is truly a classic. When I saw this movie as a kid, I thought because it took place in the 40's it was made that long ago, but I was wrong. Released in 1983, this movie depicts the antics of a typical family during the winter season. Maybe it reminds us all of our own childhood Christmas wishes and that's why it's so addicting.

2. The Grinch

I never thought it could have been done. Making a classic book and wonderful animated special into a live-action, full length film, but it happened and the Christmas season is better for it. Ron Howard adapts this short cartoon into a compelling and heartfelt movie. Jim Carey owns this role and I'm pretty sure that no one else could have played the Grinch besides him. Plus, the little girl that plays Cindy Lou Who is adorable.

1. The Santa Clause

Probably my favorite Christmas movie ever. I have loved this new twist on the Christmas tradition of Santa since it was released. It didn't need a sequel, but that's another story all together. Like I said, this film expounds upon the traditional holiday story with a new twist: how they get a new Santa every year. Tim Allen is fantastic as Santa and I enjoy this movie because of his excellent acting.

My #1 is still "Mickey's Christmas Carol." slicing the pea in half for supper, Fezziwig as a toad, and Jimeny Cricket...classic through and through. Merry almost-Christmas, cfj.

I LOVE "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever"!! When I was in third grade, my teacher gave the book to me for Christmas, and it was my favorite for the longest! They have a movie too??

I also didn't know that was a movie. I read the book every Christmas. As far as favorite Christmas movies, I also love The Santa Claus. But I don't remember liking I'll Be Home for Christmas. Maybe I should see it again. I like Charlie Brown too, even though it doesn't seem to flow very well.

Merry Christmas Jeff!

Oh it's definitely a movie. It's great!

Check it out on Amazon.com. I'm such a commercialist lackey.

A few things:

Merry Christmas all.

Joe: I cannot believe you admitted to liking "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" in a public place. Haha, kidding. Although, I'm sure it's equal with "I'll Be Home For Christmas" with me. So, I will give it a shot next year.

Sarah and Jessica: I also love "Mickey's Christmas Carol" the Charlie Brown Special respectively. But, I was doing movies, so that being the reason I didn't like it. As far as cartoons, I love Frosty The Snowman as performed by Jimmy Durante.

Jeff, this summer we'll watch it and I think you'll appreciate it more. Especially as a ministerial student.

They nailed the typical church so well. Gosh. And for the kids to do so well in the end, man that's the greatest Christian Christmas movie ever. And I don't even think they meant it to be "Christian."

I got your comment on my site, and your right that is just oddly strange the way we all started writing at the same time and have had eachother linked to eachother's site for some time as well.... I had a great holiday and thanks for inquiring I hope you (jeff), (Justin) and Chase had a good one too. In regard to your entry- I really liked "A Christmas Story," I watched that one growing up every year at about Thanksgiving Time, that movie brings back Christmas memories and I still laugh at the part he comes down the stairs in this big fury outfit and the brother is busting up laughing on the floor. :-)

Oh my god, The Santa Clause is the BEST Christmas movie EVER!!!

When my sister was two or three years old, she became obsessed with it, so we watched it almost every day for a straight year. I think I have the whole movie memorized and have seen it or heard it being played in the background about 350+ times... but i STILL love it - that's how good of a movie it is. I even have the soundtrack on my computer, lol. Gotta love it... :D
